X10 10.2 inch tablet
Hi All,
Just thought I would post my thoughts on the bigger of the 2 tablets from
X10, the AirpadX 10.2 which I have managed to receive from a friend in the
US.
The webpage makes it look great but in reality, the final result is very
low
end and cheap looking.
The screen does not appear to be running at the native resolution of the
LCD
itself as the fonts look very fuzzy and washed out. Colours are very wishy
washy too. This was the biggest disappointment for me as I have seen $300
units on sale here with 7" models with far better displays this this
unit.
As book reader the text is too tough on the eyes to use it for this
application.
The touch screen is responsive enough though and being capacitive it nice
to
use but as this is Gingerbread based, the inclusion of the hardware buttons
on the end do get in the way when holding the unit for normal use and I
found myself pressing them by accident.
Speed is on par with other tablets in the 1Ghz range but this is a single
core unit only.
It is running a Cyanogen ROM and lacks a lot of features, which for me is
that there is no Android Market installed. In fact, this can't be installed
and run on this tablet so you are left with installing Amazon and if you
are
outside the UK, you need to spoof a US address to even download the free
applications on there.
I seem to have a small issue with my tablet just in the last few days were
doing anything causes the running application to quit as if the back button
was pressed. I may have to return this for repair which will be a pain
having to send back to the USA.
One thing I found that with this being Wi-Fi only, a number of the free
applications I installed before going on holiday simply refused to work
after about 3-5 days because there was not internet access for the adverts.
Very annoying and I would not consider a Wi-Fi only device again because of
this. They just reported that they needed re-installation and shutdown. On
returning home, they all work fine once the Wi-Fi___33 was activated again.
Not good.
Battery life is dismal too and nowhere near the stated capacity on the
website. I was lucky to get about 3-4 hours of solid use from it.
I wouldn't recommend this unless you are looking for something to let the
kids play with or simply control your home and not take it anywhere else.
I am lucky that I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for my main use and this
is
a quality unit compared to the AirpadX.
Dave.

Very funny Scotty, now beam down my clothes.
