Most (if not all) BIOS's have a "On AC Restoration" (I.e. When
power is
applied), what action should be taken....."Last State",
"Power Off" /
"Power On".=A0  Select "Power On", plug pc into a timer
socket / equivalent=
,
and it will boot up everytime mains is switched on.

As long as you have a script to shut PC down clearly after it has done its
job, this should be quite elegant (and cheap!).
