RE: CBus dimmale LED's

The Megaman units are 230v GU10 lamps, not MR16 low voltage.

I decided to replace my 12v MR16 fittings as I was not confident that my
existing 20-60VA 12v Aurora transformers would be happy running an LED
load,
therefore I would most likely have to buy and fit replacement transformers
to keep my fittings 12v. It was also more difficult to find good quality
dimmable 12v LED lamps, and those I did were nearly twice the price of the
GU10 Megaman lamps. I did briefly consider replacing the 12v MR16 lamp
holder with a 230v GU10 lampholder to convert the fitting to 230v, but in
the end as my original fittings were just basic Aurora cast downlights I
decided to replace the entire fitting with a slightly more attractive 230v
downlight from a different manufacturer.

I'm a bit confused now - do the dimming MR16's still need an LED driver or
will they work from an existing transformer?

I have old wire wound transformers that supply around 6 50W halogens each.

Is there a solution that allows just a replacement lamp (I guess with a
built in driver of some sort)? Or does the transformer definitely need
replacing? (the transformer replacement would mean taking down the ceiling
and fitting a new one - although that might have to happen anyway with the
changes to plumbing).

Cheers,

Paul.

OK cool - where did you get your megaman units from?

No sign of flickering at dimmed levels?

Paul.

Hi Paul

My dimmers are universal in as much as I can set them to trailing or
leading
edge depending on the attached load. The Megaman dimmable LEDs specify
leading edge dimmers so should be fine with your CBus units, subject to
minimum loading etc.

Thanks Neil.

Are your dimmers leading or trailing edge?

Mine are the older leading edge although I see that there's a 'universal'
CBus dimmer that does both leading and trailing edge from what I can see -
wondering if that needs to be changed?

Paul.

I use Helvar dimmers rather than CBus, but I've had good results with the
new Megaman 6W Dimmable lamps which were good value from Starlec online.
They dim nicely and are a nice warm white. I've also tried some Megaman
golf
ball dimmable LEDS in table lamps which also work well. However I've found
that unlike the GU10 lamps, these do not go fully out when "off"
- I get a
very dim output that is only visible in a truly dark room (whereas the
GU10s
go fully off). I'm guessing the driver electronics in the base of the lamp
are different and this combined with the electronic dimmer (as opposed to a
wall-mount dimmer with a physical switch operation) is causing the issue.

Subject: [ukha_d] CBus dimmale LED's

Has anyone here in the UK got CBus with leading edge dimmers and had really
good experiences of dimmable LED driver/lamps? I've seen a number of posts
on the CBus forums but they seem to mostly relate to Australian
parts/suppliers etc.

I'm re-modelling my kitchen and want good output, dimmable LED's for the
downlights. Limited budget though, so they can't cost a small fortune.

Any ideas/experiences?

Many thanks,

Paul.
