My solution for what it's worth...
Mk momentary grid switches wired back to digital inputs on K8000 I/o so the
state of each switch known (can time the key press for different functions
also). Misterhouse scans for state changes so always knows state of inputs.
Outputs (dimmers) also driven by misterhouse so it always knows state (and
retains through restarts). So web interface always reflects output status. 
Also various timeouts implemented per output or per lighting scene to
provide energy saving. Some timeouts vary by time of day based on  usage
patterns. Took a while to get right but 100% reliable now!
