Mark,

The DS18B20 nodes all talk to a baseNode which is USB attached and looks to
the 'server' like a serial port. The data from the nodes is simply a comma
delimited string of the various values. It's easy to add a humidity sensor
too.

My setup has the baseNode plugged into a HAH - this allows rules/action
based logic to be applied to the data from the nodes as the firmware in the
HAH exposes all of the node info as xAP endpoints.

( ... should mention here that I'm slightly biased since I'm one of the
original developers on the opensourced HAH project).
