Regarding inexpensive light switch solutions: I am using KNX. If you
currently have all your wires going into a central closet, you can have
a lighting solution for sub 30GBP a port.

i.e. a 16-port actor is around 250EUR, a 16-port binary input is around
250EUR.

KNX gets expensive if you do not have all wires coming into a central
closet, and/or want the status info displayed on each sensor. All in
all, I am happy with KNX, atm controlling around 100 devices in my home.
