Re: UK WiFi Thermostats . and Siri...
Siri and the Android speech recogniser does depend on an internet
connection.
I use the Android one along with a program called tasker (which automates
most tasks on my phone) to do simple speech based stuff on my phone. The
beauty of tasker is that you can interface it to python scripts to do stuff
like send an xmpp jabber message when the phone enters a certain location.
Then you can write a jabber bot to act on the commands on your server at
home. So for example, if you have a command line way of turning lights on
at home, you can get the jabber bot to interface with that.
