RE: Hi-Def video senders (long post, sorry!)

If you want full HDMI over single Cat5e with IR passback for control
then y=
ou=E2=80=99re in the realms of HDBaseT extenders. They even provide an
Ethe=
rnet path as well so you can get HDMI video and audio plus Ethernet and IR
=
control down the single cable. So far so good but the catch is cost,
you=E2=
=80=99ll not get these for less than =C2=A3300 a set.

=20

Your amp will also not output component video unless you feed it an
analogu=
e signal =E2=80=93 while it will convert analogue sources to HDMI it will
n=
ot do this the other way around. This means you would have to rely on the
V=
irgin box supplying component which may or may not be HD due to
restriction=
s that can be set up by the content owners (supposedly to prevent analogue
=
HD copies being easy to make).

=20

I use the HDBaseT extenders on all of my installs now =E2=80=93 the
expense=
is more than covered by the lack of hassle as they simply just work. Gone =
are the days are having to try several sets of baluns to try and find an
ar=
rangement that works in that particular case. So far I=E2=80=99ve had
1080P=
audio and lossless audio running over a CCA Cat5e which measures 72m on my=
cable qualification meter with no issues at all.

I'm pretty sure that single cat5 HDMI senders are available too so that
mig=
ht be another option. I'll dig out some links when I get to a pc.
