RE: Roomba
I have a couple of the 500 series at the moment...they're good, but
with the following caveats:
1. You still need to hoover every now at then....not often, but
Roomba doesn't get into all the corners
2. It helps if you have a habit of keeping your floors relatively
clear of cables, rugs with tassels, hairbands, dog toys, crayons etc....
if your family, like mine, regards every horizontal surface as something
that needs to be covered up with junk, then you'll end up spending more
time preparing the room for Roomba that you will save.
Honestly though, they are surprisingly effective. They're cheap over here
too, Costco frequently has the latest model for $250ish, and Woot (a
deal-a-day kind of site, recently acquired by Amazon) has refurbs every now
and then for less than $150.

Had a couple at the start, worked well but fragile. I'm sure they've
come a long way since then though. New 6th gen '700 Series'
announced at CES...
