I agree with Phil - a piece of wire generally just works and isn't
suscepti=
ble to your neighbours setting up access points willy-nilly on the same
cha=
nnel as you without any consideration (as has happened to me).

That said, it's not always easy to run new cables, plus many new devices
(e=
.g. tablets) need wifi anyway. Therefore as a compromise maybe run a
couple=
of wireless access points at opposite ends of the house (perhaps at 1st fl=
oor ceiling level to help cabling), on different, well separated channels,
=
and run a single cable between them. If you really can't run a cable
betwee=
n them (in which case maybe UKHA isn't the best place for advice anyway) I

was going to suggest you could try two, say Linksys, access points flashed
=
with DD-WRT and run them in network extension mode, however it looks like
y=
ou might have something like that (I don't know about Apple products).

If you've got media streaming though I can't help thinking you might spend

as much time trying to build a reliable wifi network as running new cables
