I guess it disperses the moist air out into the house and then fairly
quickly outside as there's a constant leakage to the outside?

When we were building - late 90s - it was passed by building control as
doing away with need for fans in wet rooms.  No idea of that's still the
case.  However in reality it has been fantastic for over a decade now. 
Never a problem with with moisture / condensation anywhere in the house.
