Something in the back of my head says windows 7 defaults the dns
domain to 'home' unless you override that behaviour in the tcpip
properties.

I may be misremembering and since I use .home as the local domain for my
network so I can't readily check but I don't think I'd have been that
'creative' unless something nudged me down that path.

I guess the solution is either to fix the windows 7 client from the
advanced tcpip settings or to update the router to be the dns for *.home
and update the dhcp settings accordingly.
