RE: 24/7 versus limited on and off time for water heating

Ah good idea. 2 hours does seem a bit long. I can adjust this time on
the
microcontroller anyway so I will experiment. 30 mins is probably enough.

No issues with SWMBO here, she is happy for me to come up with any solution
to save money on electric use. At the moment, just switching the water
heater off in the morning before the showers and then back on before
retiring has reduced the electric use already! No idea how much as the
logging is not ready but looking at the amount of usage on the meter for
the
last week it is maybe roughly about 20% saved which is quite surprising.

Dave.

Chaps,

Where does this magic "two hours" heating time come from?
I'd set it to an hour and see if you run out of hot water, then
increase/decrease as necessary.

I had mine set in steps for monthly periods, starting at 15 mins, going up
to an hour during January, never as high as two hours!

The solar h/w panel install over summer has spannered that s/w, so need to
write some more code to read the tank top temperature and apply so logic to
generate a minimum heating time (subject to SWMBO not being aware heating
times are being adjusted).
