Unless this has blocking diodes, which it should, then you risk
connecting
power supplies together.

Thanks - that's sort of what is needed and I have just found that first
cable on eBay for a fiver (inc P&P) ... my only concern is paralleling
up
the 10w USB iPad PSU with a standard USB port.
