And you can't hack the output cable (or perhaps an intermediate AtoB
cable) to have 2 feeds into one for power - parallel power ?

Nope - I have some lovely 13 port powered USB hubs that have lovely meaty
4amp (20w) power supplies and, really annoyingly, they adhere to the USB
specs and supply a maximum of 500mA per port ... aren't standards (and
products that adhere to them) a bitch? :-D
