RE: [OT] iPad query...
Hi Phil,
If the iPad comes with an adaptor with a standard USB on the end as you
say,
we can do a simple PCB to get you the connectors and wiring you need.
Sorted.
Let me see what I can do for you on this over the next couple of nights! I
can send you the PCB files and you can get PCB-Pool in Ireland to make the
board quite cheaply. You can also try the guys in China that I use. Often
cheaper than PCB-Pool.
I'll only design it with through hole connectors so soldering is easy and
make sure that the USB signals are differential pair. No problem there as I
have a design here for work that uses a USB host controller and that is
working perfectly.
I'll send you a concept drawing and a 3D model of the PCB once I have it
done.
FYI and you may already know this, the maximum current from the PC is 500mA
and programmed into the USB controller connected to the USB port.
On the engine management, it was a digital dash I was working on for a V8
Carlton I used to own. Sold that when I moved out to the far east and as I
don't have a car anymore, I scrapped the idea but now I have some nifty
little touch screen TFT displays that would make an idea digital dash. The
original was going to be mono. I am actually designing some touch screen
controllers for the home automation with these instead.
What's the engine you have in the TVR?
Cheers
Dave.

Thanks for the reply Dave,
Well of course the iPad uses those damn silly USB to 30 Pin Apple
connectors
but I would have thought for something like this the ideal would be to use
two "Type B" sockets for power and data in (then you can use
standard
cables) and a single USB "Type A" socket out to to the iPad which
you would
plug the normal Apple USB cable into, no?
Oh and wasn't it you that was into your engine management systems a few
years ago? I'm currently thinking of replacing the standard ECU on the TVR
with something a bit more flexible. ;-)
