RE: New WiFi AP recommendation
Hmmm... looks like first blood goes to Draytek:
AP-700 =3D =A365-ish
Airport Extreme =3D =A3140-ish
That's quite a difference.... it would have to do something pretty special
to justify that... OTOH, it does look a LOT sexier.... :-)

I'm already a Draytek fan, having been running one as my main router for

last 10 years or so (the same one for all but the last few months of that -
and I only changed because I upgraded to 50MB broadband).
The 800 looks overkill for me, the 700 provides all the features that I
think I'll ever need, but now the Airport Extreme has entered the fray as
well, so there's going to have to be a fight to the death...
Let battle commence!

Hi Paul,
I had a failing AP as well recently and wanted something reliable. Having
had Draytek routers for years I was pleased to find that they now do WAPs.
I bought a AP-800 which I found very easy to setup, has a nice feature set
and PoE out of the box. A bit more money than some WAP units but I would
recommend one.

Looks like my Netgear AP is giving up the ghost.... frequent outages &
dropouts now... so I need to replace it... - looking for recommendations
fo=
r
a standalone WiFi AP - ideally something more reliable - "enterprise
grade"
Note I don't want to use the embedded WiFi on my router, since part of my
wireless security (and power saving) strategy is to remotely turn the AP
of=
f
when the house is unoccupied (currently by X10 from Comfort), so it has to
be standalone.. - obviously this also gives better flexibility with
positioning...
I've always been impressed with the Draytek range of cable routers, and I
see they do a standalone AP... - anyone ever seen/used one (AP700 I think
it's called), - got any opinions?
Alternatively, anyone got any suggestions for a really reliable AP? - how
are Cisco these days?
Cheers.
