That would certainly work well if the depth of cut is enough (limited
with these cheap saws). Or you could flip the trunking over if you're
careful enough and cut from both sides.

Definitely cut the trunking with the lid piece firmly secured in place (and
taped if it's a small length) - that will make it cut better and cleanly.

What's the trunking size anyway?
