IR Server Suite

xPL users should already know about this, but I'm posting here because
it may be of some use to others too.

There is a program called IR Server Suite that was originally intended
as part of MediaPortal (a freeware alternative to Microsoft's Windows
Media Center) which provides a very elegant solution for dealing with
commands from infra-red remotes and other input devices.  It can also
send commands directly to A/V gear equiped with a serial port.

As it turns out, IR Server Suite doesn't rely on any specific media
application, and can be used quite happily without MediaPortal.  I've
written an xPL client for IR Server Suite that allows IR etc commands to
be relayed to/from an xPL network (including support for learning new
commands).  Since xPL messages can be easily transferred to xAP, this
may also be of interest to some of the xAP guys out there.
