Bicoloured LEDs are a work of Stan.  When you're colourblind, they
deteriorate into a game of "is this LED in bright or dim mode?"
which
can be almost impossible without a reference, and certainly not the sort
of thing you can tell at a glance from across a room.

Obviously that's not a problem if you're designing something for use in
the privacy of your own home, as it were, but in general they're best
avoided where unambiguous physically separate LEDs or flashing patterns
(not that flashing would be a good idea for something like a door lock)
can be used.
