It may be poo-poo'ed but I saw one of their hobby kits when I was
in=20=20
Maplin's yesterday that may do this. From the website:

"If the resistance of the soil (dependent on its moisture
content)=20=20
drops below a pre-set level, an LED flashes to indicate the plant=20=20
needs watering".

You could take the input from the LED as a signal into HomeVision?=20=20
Maybe worth a try for =A35?
