I think that boat has unfortunately sailed.

Given the amount and popularity of the advertising based email services a
good percentage of your email will probably end up on or be received from
them, even if people are just forwarding copies for backup.

The service offered by Google is excellent and I'm happy to have the
adverts in the current form to pay for it. You can always pay Google to
have them removed in their apps product.

If you are that worried about it, maybe you should look into encryption.
