Satellite question...

We've got a problem with our $ky at home - we seem to have lost a
swathe of
channels and I suspect that it's likely to be down to a failing LNB but I'm
looking for confirmation or suggestions otherwise.

Just flicking through the first few stations,

BBC1, Sky1, Watch, Gold, Dave, Living, Living+1, Living2, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4,
Bravo, Bravo+1, Challenge, Comedy Central+1, SciFi, SciFi+1, are fine,

BBC2, CH4, CH5, Virgin1, Virgin1+1 come up "No satellite signal is
being
received",

ITV1, Sk y2, Sky3, Comedy Central, Comedy Central X, ITV2+1 are so garbled
it's completely unwatchable,

...I'm wondering whether maybe the LNB has "selectively" failed -
possibly
in its switching between horizontal and vertical polarisation? It's a quad
LNB and it's the same on either of the LNB feeds that are routed down to
the
living room. Power cycling the $ky box doesn't make any difference and I'm
also missing similar channels on the feed to my sat card in my desktop PC
as
well.

Thing is I'm sh*t scared of heights so I really would like to find out
whether it's likely to just be an LNB change needed *BEFORE* I get out the
ladder. :-D

Oh yes, one other thing - if I have to change the LNB then are they all the
same fittings? If I have to change it then I might swap it with an octo
unit
just in case we need more feeds in the future (alternatively does anyone
know who make those LNB distribution units)?

Cheers

Phil
