LVM is fab. I use it on my linux server which is currently only using 3
disks (Two 3.5" drives for bulk storage and a small 2.5" boot
drive).
It's so easy to add extra drives or migrate the data to larger drives.
Multiple Logical Volumes allow you to keep data separate (eg. I can just
let zoneminder manage the space on the cctv LV), and file systems
smaller (quicker to run fsck), without the rigidity of disk partitions
(running out of space? Just take the file system offline, increase the
LV size, resize the FS and remount). I'd use it even with a single-disk
system!
