Re: new low power server

Another vote for the Viglen MPC, I've just spent the weekend moving my
Ubuntu Linux / Shuttle XPC (Athlon XP 2200) set up to the Viglen. Including
MisterHouse, Apache, TorrentFlux, Samba/NFS file sharing, TwonkyMedia,
PostFix (plus other stuff) mailserver and few other bits and bobs.
As Jamie said, it's got no serial ports, but then the XPC only had two, so
=
I
used three USB->Serial adapters without any issues (2 years+). So these
should be fine on the Viglen.

There is only room for one 2.5" drive inside the Viglen case, so the
standard practise is to add space using an external USB2 harddrive, I've
go=
t
a dual slot enclosure (for 2 x 1TB) on order :)

I'm estimating the the whole machine will idle at less then 15 watts, and
peak at less than 25 watts. Currently the XPC idles at around 80-90w and
peaks at 130-140w. The cost of the Viglen was only =A380 incl.
vat+deliver=
y.

Haven't had time to give it a thorough kicking yet, but it's looking pretty
good so far.

Lee
