Indeed. I'm still using XP MCE and it just works.

If you're already running Vista Ultimate, I'd have thought it was quicker
to
try it out than to type your e-mail, though!

If Vista MCE is like XP MCE then don't you just hit the standby button in
the MCE UI and it does this for you??  This is how I used my XP MCE machine
up till we went Sky HD.  IIRC you could set MCE to do Standby or Hibernate.
