RE: [OT] Change of Mother board now PC won't boot into XP

Steve,

I have noticed when trying to Boot from DVD/CD that the HD LED flashes
in synchronisation with DVD/CD drive, seems strange?

The messages I get during start-up runs through to

Verifying DMI Pool Data.......

Boot from CD/DVD :

(flashing CD/DVD LED & HD LED then after 20 seconds or so)

DISK BOOT FAILURE, Insert SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

(pressing Enter)

Boot from CD/DVD :

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK

The boot failure from DVD is very suspicious, as it suggests that either
it's not actually attempting to boot from the DVD or that the DVD isn't
actually a bootable disc (which as Vista install disc certainly should
be).

Did you get the message "Press any key to boot from the CD"? (And
if you
did, did you press a key before the timeout period?)

Are you sure that the DVD drive is included in the boot sequence list in
the
BIOS?

I'd leave the HDD disconnected until you manage to get a successful DVD
boot. There could be all sorts of driver issues booting from the HDD
until
you've managed to either repair or re-install the OS over the top.

Steve Morgan

James,

Thanks for the idea... Looking at the website I think it shows it as
compatible...

Gigabyte GA-M61PM-S2 (my model is GA-M61PME-S2)

Chipset MCP61P

Socket AM2

AMD Athlon 3200+

Nigel

May sound obvious, but have you checked the CPU compatibility with your
new
mobo? Which processor are you using?

First port of call would be the AMD website (
