I disagree on this. I've used 1-wire technology in my home for years now
without any real problems and I'm planning to use it in my new build too.
I'm using cat5 cable to connect it all up and a few projects here:

Always, always, always used wired stuff for home automation if you can.
Wireless and powerline technology is a last resort!

Wired is more reliable, more secure and you can power lots of stuff over
Ethernet cables. If you duct it properly too (which doesn't add much in a
new build), then you can also add more cables or upgrade old ones.
