Thanks all for your advise.

I installed 7 into a new partition on the hard drive.
So far so good, got dual boot, seven or vista.
Latest version of vista runs smooth and 7 even better.  A shocker to
me, now they both boot faster than my Macbook with OSX. So this is a
big improvement.
Regarding the look, even if you can change desktop themes, I still
found them very eye irritating.  Too many colors and larger icons
(even when you choose the smallest pick)
These are only cosmetic issues, but wished to have more flexibility
and get a good clean minimalist theme (like the macs)
I did not load many applications, so I wonder if performance will
still be good after it gets fill up with programs.
