Agreed, Elec is going up up up.  But I wonder how many people that have
changed to CFLs instead of incand. to save energy might also run some other
stuff 24/7 -- sky digibox, PC/server (or several), HA server(s)... .....

I have a current cost and I have probably (by room) 70% incandescant / 30%
CFL.  The current cost actually helps prove that turning off the TV when
you
leave the room is worth far more than the light bulb will burn.  Likewise
many other examples including running PCs or servers 24/7.  My point --
CFLs
may save some energy but most people are burning more on other inefficient
stuff that they are wasting on light bulbs. [ I have old fashioned light
bulbs and baseload <=100w ] .  Howver, the current cost has changed
behaviour and wife now always turns off lights when leaving room
