RE: *****SPAM***** RE: HDMI Distribution over Cat5

Heh! J

Well anyhoo, Gefen are in the US so roll your eye over their HDMI
convertors. I recommend them only cos they are good, but I believe there
are
cheaper options out there - only the cheaper you go the less quality you
get.

Hmmm, maybe I should revisit this area of components myself. Anyone
(especially UK-based) recommend HDMI-Cat5 convertors they've used??

Best regards,

John Wray

No, I'm in the US now...and the house is only prewired with Cat5 to a
small extent, basically twin-Cat5 to each TV location (which, being
America, is almost every room including the outside porch!)

Try the Gefen:

&
prod
uctType=hdmi> &productType=hdmi

Are you in the UK..?

And you bought a house pre-wired with Cat5? As a Custom Installer - John
likes this! J

Subject: [ukha_d] HDMI Distribution over Cat5

Hi all

I'm about to buy a house that's been pre-wired with dual-cat5 to each
potential TV location, on the basis that there are now some gizmo's that
can send HDMI over Cat5 (none of this was my idea, btw). The 2 that
I've found are:

http://www.opentip.com/Electronics-Computers/Atlona-Hdmi-Matrix-Switcher
-Over-Cat-Cat-p-975459.html

and

http://www.bkcomp.com/products/multi-zone/?tx_ttproducts_pi1[backPID]=23
&tx_ttproducts_pi1[product]=14&cHash=baca0c6f04
<http://www.bkcomp.com/products/multi-zone/?tx_ttproducts_pi1%5bbackPID%
<http://www.bkcomp.com/products/multi-zone/?tx_ttproducts_pi1%5bbackPID%25>
<http://www.bkcomp.com/products/multi-zone/?tx_ttproducts_pi1%5bbackPID%
<http://www.bkcomp.com/products/multi-zone/?tx_ttproducts_pi1%5bbackPID%25>
25>
<http://www.bkcomp.com/products/multi-zone/?tx_ttproducts_pi1%5bbackPID%

25>

The problem is, both of these cost a fortune, and the latter, which is
recommended by the guy that did the AV cabling, isn't even capable of
the audio bit, so another fancy box would be needed.

Does anybody had ideas on a more economical solution? Right now there
will be 3 TVs and a projector (all HD), and 4 sources (2 x TiVo, DVD,
PC). They're all in a Node zero (along with Sonos which will take care
of music distribution), along with all the cat5 that's been home run to
the same cupboard.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Pete
