Yes, I used a Supermicro 5-into-3 mobile rack when my linux server was
living in a 4U ~500mm deep chassis. They're impossible to cool quietly
(and still difficult to cool noisily).

When I had to shrink it to fit into a cupboard I switched to a 300mm
deep 4U chassis (the only case that would fit in the 400mm deep wall
rack I put up in the cupboard), which meant ditching the mobile rack as
there was no way it would fit. I used a plain 5-into-3 bracket
(basically a rectangular tube with holes drilled in the appropriate
locations to mount the drives vertically) with a small fan velcroed to
the front - the HDs still ran fairly hot (~50C)

The server now lives in a normal mini tower (uATX size), and the drives
are mounted on the back of the front 120mm fan using brackets bought
from here:

All 3 drives now run at a near constant ~30C (and quietly with it!). I
rarely, if ever, used the hot swap ability of the mobile racks (and only
ever when "cold") anyway, so no loss there...

Jim
