Introduction

Hi

I've been trolling around the HA sites for a few years, but now that I'm
seriously looking for my first house I thought I'd join the community
properly in preparation.

I'm a software architect, living in Cambridgeshire. I get excited by
geospatial, mobile and home automation technologies.

My plans for HA in my future home will be finding the lowest cost (but
still
good quality) ways of controlling everything from lights, blinds, door
locks
and A/V with a view to controlling from one central system. Of course I'm
not expecting this to be different from anyone else on this list.

I already have some ideas for the control UI and management
software/network, but the actual HA side of things I only have the rough
ideas of and can't wait to finally get something to play with.

I'm a Mac and Linux user at home, so any information about non-Windows
approaches are of interest to me. My current network is a Mac Mini running
EyeTV as my main PC and an iMac as my chat PC. I have 2 Linux servers in
my
kitchen, one running my blog, the other waiting to be used.

Duncan
