GU10 /LV/CF/LED lamps

Following the discussions on LED and CF lamps thought this might be of
interest to some..

I went to Aurora Lighting HQ yesterday for a look round there showrooms and
to see new products.

Most interesting was their new Low Energy Part L solution.

Most current Compact Fluorescents that fit in a standard GU/MR16 fitting
are
not fully Part L as they do not comply to the 40w per Lumen bit. Aurora
have
introduced a CF lamp and fitting that is fully compliant, and fully
dimmable
with a traditional dimmer offering 3%-100% control.

One of the major gripes with CF is the colour rendering and start up time.
Their new fitting is better in both respects, start up to full brightness
is
around 45secs compared to upto 4 mins with the 7w & 11w fittings
currently
available. Colour rendering is almost a match to standard 50w LV Halogen,
and sits nicely between LV and GU rendering. This is great as you can now
mix LV & CF without getting horrible colour differences.

BUT - here's the catch... The fitting and lamp are physically bigger than a
standard fixed GU/LV fitting. However a suitable solution if requiring to
mix LV & CF would be to fit Gimble style LV fittings as these have a
physical dimension similar to the CF and don't look to out of place side by
side.

Just a thought for those looking for lamp changes.

Oh and the other one of interest is their LV/IR lamp ? - I knew nothing of
this, but apparently it has the same light output and colour rendering as a
standard 35w LV lamp, but using 25% (I think) less energy therefore
introducing a sensible saving without losing all the control us HA'ers like
:)

I think I will finally be giving in and going dimmable fluorescent and
LV/IR
on my Cbus system soon.

Dean.
