When I studied law for a year at Uni the argument would be that the
advertised price is an invitation to treat. Basically means a basis
to start negotiations. A contract for goods is only netered into at
the checkout where the price is entered and you pay for the goods.
Obviously there is no human on the internet so I think the contract
is only entered into at the point of dispatch.
Of course some companys will ignore the law one way or another. The
best result is when a retailer admits they made a mistake but honour
the price as a gesture of good will.
