I'm confused slightly, wouldn't you also need a computer per zone to

Note that the previous iPod Touch didn't have a mail client (not
upgraded to the new firmware yet, but that doesn't seem like something
that apple would change).

Of course you can jailbreak it and then install Mail.app.

And if you jailbreak it you can do pretty much whatever you like
anyway (assuming you don't mind getting your hands dirty..).
