According to the C-Bus 4-Channel Dimmer installation instructions:

"Suitable loads for these products include incandescent and inductive
varieties. Low voltage lighting can be controlled provided iron core
transformers or electronic transformers specially suited to leading edge
phase control are used. Small motors can be controlled, such as those used
in ceiling fans, however motor noise may be audible in some
instances."
