How about an AV receiver instead?
This is where I will end up the tv is going on the wall tomorrow(!)
and all boxes are being hidden away.

The advantage of a receiver is that many of them will upscale to HDMI
*and* can do the surround sound duties for DVDs etc.

My shortlist has the Denon 1908 & 1909 on it (=A3250-=A3450), and
there's
also a highly-rated Onkyo for similar money. Do check with the cheaper
receivers that they will upscale to HDMI as not all will :-(    (a
couple of cheaper Sony ones don't, for e.g.)
