Re: [OT] Any plastics experts out there ??

Dean,
I know more about paint than plastics, but here are a few ideas.

1. Melt temperature, as you suggest.
2. Hardness (try scratching with a sharp point. Also look at the scratch
with a magnifying glass. Is it smooth or jagged edged?
3. Solvent resistance. Thinners, acetone, paint remover..whatever youve got
really..
4. What does it do when you heat it with a flame (melt, char, smoke..)?
5. Flexibility (if same thickness). Does it recover from bending? When and
how does it break?

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] Any plastics experts out there ??

I have two pieces of identical plastic - is there some way/some where/some
how i can find out if they are made of different materials even though they
feel the same ?

The most basic test i want is what temperature rating the plastic is - so
i'm guessing putting a piece of it in the oven might be a simple one

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Dean.
