Geoff,

We're right on the end of the exchange - about 4 miles distance.  Line
attenuation is 60dB and SNR is 10 to 12dB.
So I suppose I'm lucky to get anything.  Before the exchange forced to
speed it used to regulary drop to around 30k !!!

Poor line speeds are not just the preserve of people living in the
countryside.

My mother lives in the middle of a suburb and can only achieve a 1Mb
connection.
