Re: [Slightly OT] Intel CPU

I'm a complete Intel convert again... used to use AMD procs, but
switched to Intel after trying to *seriously* multi-task.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just something
"odd"
about the way the AMD procs behave under load. it's like work, work,
work, STOP, where the Intel procs degrade more gracefully as you stack
them up.

I'm running Quad Core on my Ubuntu Server with Vmware - be aware Paul
there are *big* issues with running Vmware on Ubuntu on any version
after Dapper Drake (6.06 LTS). This isn't an ubuntu problem by the way,
it effects pretty much any Kernel after 2.6.16 - guys have complained
about it on CentOs, RHEL, Suse..

It might be okay now that we are on vmware server 2.0 beta, but I'm
still running on 1.04 until I am sure that the performance issues are
gone on later Kernels.

bit of a pisser, as my Mobo isn't fully supported back on Dapper.

oh yeah, where was I... Yeah, Quad Core rocks. I'm probably due for a
refresh on my desktop PC this year, and wouldn't have a moments
hesitation in going for the quad core chip.

I.
