Arqiva has been awarded a contract by the BBC to help create the Freesat
pl=
atform, due for launch in March of 2008. The company has been working with
=
the BBC for more than 18 months to develop initial plans, and began
platfor=
m testing last in August 2007. The Freesat platform is to use the Eurobird
=
1 satellite situated at 28.5=B0 east for its EPG and other services, this
h=
as a far wider footprint than the Astra 2D satellite.
There are no plans by either the BBC or ITV to change satellite,
broadcasts=
will continue from Astra 2D. Channel 4 is also expected to switch to Astra=
2D when it joins Freesat.
Arqiva have confirmed to the Astra 2D Website, that tests are being
carried=
out on transponder C5, 11.385 horizontal polarization. There are also repo=
rts of a Freesat Interactive test on transponder C5 horizontal 11.428.

According to the transponder data from Freesat, the new platform will
inclu=
de the following genres:

Entertainment
News & Sport
Movies
Lifestyle
Children
Music
Shopping
Radio
Special Interest
Regional
Gaming & Dating
Interactive
BBCi
ITV
