Well, they did it -

it also appears that Apple's update is removing ring tones and music
not bought through iTunes.

on an interesting point, my colleague is having hell with her itouch
order - the Apple store in Glasgow (launched to great fanfare on the
apple website) were out of stock, and told her to order online - they
told her that it would be dispatched on launch date... Apple's
support people are now saying that the Apple stores are "not
affiliated with Apple in any way": they are claiming that the stores
have nothing to do with Apple, and they won't honour what the staff
in store have said...
