Chris,

Have you considered a cheapo circular saw (e.g.
http://www.argos.co.uk/ProductDisplayTRK019?partNumber=7105025)
with a
coarse blade? It'll be a bit messy but easily handled and you shouldn't see
any wear on the blade :-)

Ideally you'd want a "dado" cutter but I don't think they'll fit
in a
portable saw.
