Gmail does change the from to the gmail address when sending thru its
server.



Plus, if you want to send with a domain name, its never a good idea to use
a
totally unrelated smtp server like your ISPs or someone elses since there
will be no DNS records to connect it to your domain name unless you
specifically go and add SPF records, so the chances of the emails being
declared spam by filters is higher since they are spoofed addresses.

Presumably you're using an outgoing SMTP server provided by google? In that
case it is that server that is responsible for mangling your headers.

Does your ISP have an outgoing SMTP server? it may be better to simply use
that - it should leave your reply to unchanged..
