IR Memory / Replay?

Has anyone built (or is there a commercial offering) a device to
record an
IR signal and then reply it at a specific time?
I guess it could be done with a PIC & an RTC chip.
I'm looking at a couple of possibilities one of which is controlling an IR
device via a schedule, and also perhaps a better timer control for my NTL
box as the program guide is only 24 hours which makes it a bit pants for
going on holiday.
