RE: Re: Barcode data

I suggested this to SWMBO about 15 years ago and was laughed at :)

It would be good to be able to hook this into one of the supermarket's
on-line shopping ordering systems so that everything you use in the week is
automatically added to the weekly order.

Hi Paul,

I just looked at a few items on my desk (beer bottle, Pepsi can, book) and
they all have 13 digit codes.

My reason for the list, is that I want to have a scanner in my kitchen that
will allow me to automatically add items to the shopping list.

At this stage, I use a touch screen in the kitchen and a preset list of
products, that I then select a tick box beside each product that is
required.

At the end of the week, I print a shopping list of the ticked items.

All of this is part of the MisterHouse HA program.

Regards,

Neil Wrightson.

I learnt about bar-codes in my degree. In the UK we can have 13-
element bar codes which are internationally recognised and 8-element
barcodes which are used for own brand products that won't be sold
outside of the supermarket chain.

For 13 element bar codes the first two digits are for country i.e.
50 = UK, I can't remeber exactly the other groups but I would guess
the next 3 elements are for the manufacturer and the remaining
identify the product.
