I had considered using a UPS to maintain the supply to C-Bus but then
read that each module, within it's self, needs to be on the same
phase... I suppose what you have done is some modules totally on UPS and
some totally not on the UPS?

Pretty much the same as I did mine. With one addition that the CBUS
power
side is UPS'd (along with a couple of relay outputs). Comfort handles
emergency lighting via cbus. In face, the CBUS DLT's provide a very
decent
emergency light themselves :-)

Hi all

There's an interesting thread on the UK_Selfbuild board about CU wiring
started by Rob Mouser, with a particular emphasis on C-BUS so I thought
I'd
bring the pertinent bits across here as it is quite a useful reference
(apologies for the bit's I've clipped out), and I have a question to add
that that there may be a few more people here who can answer

Rob:

We are having a 17 way dist board in the house for all the standard
circuits.
Plus; 2 x 36 way units to hold the cbus lighting dimmers and related 1am
and 2amp relays.
The design of the 36 way units means that I need to link the earth and
neutral terminal bars top and bottom and between the two units and also
then link back to the main 17 way dist board.
The 36 way units will only contain 1amp and 2amp lighting circuits but
is there a minimum cable size requirement to link the bars?

Ben Addison:

The cable size to link the bars needs to be the same size as the cable
supplying the board. If it was like the ones I do then I guest you have
to
8
channel dimmers etc in each unit, which would be feed from a 20a supply
using 2.5mm. Therefore the link would need to be 2.5mm.

Thanks Ben, Yes, 2 x 8ch and 1 x 4ch dimmers. I was intending to supply
each
individually from the 17 way unit using 10amp MCB's. So I'll link up
using 2.5mm.

If your using 10a then 1.5 will be fine.

There will be 3 c-bus units each on its own 10a supply, which would be
fine
in 1.5mm. They would all then be terminated in the bars at the bottom of
the
enclosure. The way I do my units is to have an 2.5mm supply then spilt
into
2 10a Mcb's
inside the enclosure. Or if you are having 3 units then you could run a
4mm
supply on a 30a mcb then drop to 3 10a Mcb's, this would mean you have
more
spare ways in the cu.

My additional question is this:

4 of our circuits will be for table lamp sockets (round pin) and one of
the
electricians who quoted on the work pointed out that these would need to

be
protected by an RCD because in theory you could plug anything into them
(however unlikely cutting the plug off the an electric fire to plug into
a
light socket to use in the bathroom seems). This is in Ireland so the
regs
may be a bit different over there on this requirement, so not asking for
clarification from the group.

I've rejigged my board layout so that all of these come off a 4ch dimmer

so:

a) can a CBUS dimmer be protected by an RCD OK (no leakage anywhere)?

b) Can I protect the whole board with a 30A MCB at the CU and then
protect this particular dimmer with an RCD. Or does each dimmer in the
panel need it's own local MCB and this one need a RCBO? Obviously
neutrals
off the RCD/RCBO will be on a separate busbar.
