I does try a few user names and passwords. Hackery needed to change the
ones
it tries, but nothing too difficult.

I just needs Windows aka samba aka smb shares.

True enough, and this can't easily be added without fuse, which needs a new
kernel, and the manufacturers won't release the sources. I built a new
kernel
from Kiss source (with hackery) but their modules won't work without some
symbols that are missing.
