RE: 1Tb Drives *IN STOCK*...

When drives are used in a RAID configuration they're usually run 24/7
and
housed in an enclosure with multiple other drives. All drives vibrate when
they're running and they will all vibrate at different amplitudes /
frequencies.

"RAID Edition" drives are supposed to be better able to handle a
permanently
"on" life as well as being tweaked to handle the externally
generated
vibrations of other drives. They also may have data caching and data
transfer algorithms that are better suited to the typical access patterns
found in RAID storage systems than domestic use.

(Of course they could just be exactly the same drive mechanically, rebadged
with a different label and flashed with a slightly modified firmware and
the
extra few quid that the RAID editions go for could be just to cover the
slightly increased chance of failure within the warranty period - or is
that
just me being cynical?)

Me - I have no concerns about using multiple "Non-RAID-Edition"
drives
together for my own use ... I very much doubt that mechanically there is
any
difference between the RAID and non-RAID versions of the same IDE/SATA
drives as it must make more economic sense to have to produce as few
different sets of tooling as possible and not have to split production runs
of mechanical assemblies. (Flashing a controller card subassembly with a
different firmware version later on down the line is much easier.)
